Radial Gate

The radial gate is used to control water flow through spillways and locks. It features a reinforced curved panel, radial arms with trunnions for rotation, and a rubber sealing system. Adaptable to specific conditions, it can operate partially open to regulate flow. Various operating systems and complete accessories are available, with a design that complies with the UNI EN ISO 9001 standard. The main materials include S355J2G3 EN 10025, AISI 316, and neoprene rubber.

Description

Radial Gate – Water Flow Control for Dams and Locks

The radial gate, also referred to as the “Tainter gate,” represents an advanced and highly effective solution for managing water flow through dam spillways and river locks. Engineered to endure demanding environmental and operational conditions, this radial gate features a robust, reinforced curved panel that is supported by sturdy horizontal beams. Additionally, two main vertical beams transfer the load efficiently to the radial arms. These radial arms are equipped with trunnions mounted on frames, which facilitate smooth and precise circular rotation for both opening and closing operations.

When the radial gate is in the closed position, the curved panel effectively withstands substantial water pressure through its radial arms and pivot system situated on the dry side of the gate. The dimensions of the radial gate can be customized to meet specific site conditions and civil engineering requirements, ensuring a perfect fit for a wide range of applications. A rubber sealing system is incorporated to guarantee a watertight closure, while the gate is also capable of operating in a partially open position to manage and regulate the downstream water flow effectively.

There are several flexible solutions available for connecting the trunnions to the concrete structure. These options include hinges connected to concrete teeth protruding from the side walls, trunnions embedded directly into the side walls, or hinges connected to steel trunnion beams that are anchored to the side walls with post-tensioned cables. Additionally, various operating systems can be employed, including hydraulic cylinders, electric motors, or bespoke systems tailored to the specific needs of the client.
